Beautiful Greidys Gil was crowned Nuestra Belleza Latina 2009 narrowly beating Marycarmen Lopez. During her one-year reign, she receives a contract to work for Univision as well as $200,000 in cash and prizes. There were plenty of talented and sexy ladies in the running. Lovely Greidys succeeds last year’s winner Melissa Marty.

The first contest was shown in 2007. This year marked the third season of the popular event. The panel of judges has changed and the competition is tough. Any of the beautiful ladies would have been an excellent choice.

The contest begins with auditions at five major cities in the U.S. and in San Juan, Puerto Rico. From this group, 75 young women receive invitations to the next step of the competition in Miami.

The elimination moves very quickly with 15 leaving on the first day. Forty more are eliminated during the second week. After more auditions and judging, eight of the remaining girls are also scratched.

The twelve lucky finalists move to a mansion in Miami. They live there together for the rest of the competition. Here they will receive classes in dancing, modeling, public speaking, diet and nutrition, television skills, and physical training. They are given many opportunities to demonstrate their talents during the contest. The finalists also compete against each other
in different challenges.

After each episode of the show is over, viewers at home get to vote for their favorite by phone or text message. The three women with the least number of votes are in danger of being eliminated. Two of the three can
be saved, one by the other ladies and the other by the judges. If they
are saved, they get to continue. My personal favorite was the sexy and charismatic Susie de los Santos. She made it to finals this year, but did
not win the crown.

Contestants represent themselves, not countries, so you can have more than one lady with the same nationality. Greidys is Cuban, but Marycarmen and Monica finished in the top five. Both
sexy ladies are Mexican. Melissa Marty, Nuestra Belleza Latina for 2008, is from Puerto Rico.

This year they also had an “Intrusa”. That is a secret spy in the group who spills gossip about the others. I am
hoping to get that job next year.
