Everybody knows who J-Lo is. Jennifer Lopez is so popular that you do not even have to say her name. This talented lady is an actress, a singer, a producer, a dancer, and much more. She is the richest latina in Hollywood by far. According to People en Español, Jennifer is also the most influential Hispanic entertainer in the United States. The super sexy latina has sold millions of albums worldwide and appeared in many films.
Jennifer Lynn Lopez was born on July 24, 1969, in the Bronx, New York. Her parents moved there from
Puerto Rico.
She took singing and dancing lessons for many years. After months of auditioning, she found work as a dancer in music videos and as a backup dancer for New Kids on the Block. Her first regular job was as a "Fly Girl" dancer on the television program In Living Color. She also worked as a backup dancer for Janet Jackson.
Soon after, Lopez started getting parts on television and in a few movies. Her first big role was in the 1995 action film Money Train with Wesley Snipes and Woody Harrelson.
The next year, she was in movies with Robin Williams and Jack Nicholson. But Jennifer’s big break came in 1997 when she was chosen to play the starring role in Selena. It was a fantastic performance and earned her an award for Best Actress.
Later that year, she starred in my personal favorite movie Anaconda with Ice Cube and Jon Voight.
In 1998, J-Lo had one of her biggest roles starring with George Clooney in Out of Sight. Lopez became the highest paid latin actress in Hollywood history. She followed that starring with Vince Vaughn in the thriller The Cell. Jennifer then took a short vacation from acting to work on her growing music career. In 2001, she came back to star with Matthew McConaughey in The Wedding Planner. The movie debuted at number one. This made her the first actress and singer in history to have a film and an album at number one in the same week.
Her later movies displayed a wide range of acting talent in a variety of roles. There was the supernatural romance Angel Eyes, the thriller Enough, and then the romantic comedy Maid in Manhattan. Even though she never had a big hit movie, J-Lo was always in demand. She received $15 million for her work in the movie Monster-in-Law. Lopez made the 2007 Forbes magazine list of The 20 Richest Women In Entertainment. Her wealth is estimated to be more than $100 million.
J-Lo's first
music
album was released in 1999 and reached the top ten. It featured the number-one lead single If You Had My Love. It also included a duet with Marc Anthony that received two nominations at the
2000 Latin Grammy Awards.
Her second album was released in 2001 and debuted at number one. She released two more albums in the next four years, all done in English. Jennifer’s first full Spanish
language
album Como Ama una Mujer was released early in 2007. Her husband Marc Anthony produced the album with Estefano. Late in 2007, Lopez released her fifth album in English. She is now working on a few songs and trying to finish a new album for later this year.
Lopez is not afraid of controversy. Her frequent use of animal fur has angered many people concerned with
animal rights.
At the premiere of one movie, more than one hundred people from PETA staged a protest. Like
Salma Hayek, J-Lo is also a cigar smoker.
Despite all of this, the beautiful latina is still enormously popular. She was listed by People en Español magazine in the top "50 Most Beautiful" of 2006.
Her personal life has always been a hot topic in the media. After her famous affair with Ben Affleck ended, Jennifer married Marc Anthony on June 5, 2004, just four days after his divorce was final. But the two had known each other for years and worked together on projects before. In 2007, they worked on the movie El Cantante together. The film is in English with subtitles for the songs done in Spanish.
On the last night of their "En Concierto" tour, J-Lo and Marc announced that they were expecting their first child. Lopez gave birth on February 22, 2008 to fraternal twins, a girl and a boy. People magazine paid $6 million for the photos and rights to introduce the twins in their March 11, 2008 issue.
I am sure there will be more little cantantes coming in the near future . . .
