Novelas Mirror the Drama of Life

Novelas are the latino version of soap operas.

The stories seem real,
but they are much more interesting. For some strange reason, we are fascinated by watching the lives of the characters in these novelas.
We laugh and cry with these people as if they were our own family.

We have all laughed at the crazy adventures of the Desperate Housewives on the popular ABC television series. The American version stars the sexy latina Eva Longoria as Gabrielle. Muy caliente!! But did you know that there was also Spanish version?

Amas de Casa Desesperadas is a novela which debuted on Univision in January 2008. Set in the fictitious Manzanares Street, the series follows the lives of four housewives and their problems. We experience the daily dilemmas surrounding their husbands, friends and neighbors. The series combines drama, comedy, love, mystery, and soap opera. Based on the American television series Desperate Housewives, it was developed for latinos by Disney-ABC International Television and Pol-Ka Producciones.

Que locura!! Me encanta . . .
now I am convinced that all women are truly crazy, but my new mission in life is to find this neighborhood and move there immediately.

La Marca del Deseo is a novela about five sexy young latinas named Maria Valentina, Maria Soledad, Maria Canela, Maria Claridad, and Maria Alegría who are marked for the same fate and the same curse. Without knowing it, they all set off on the same road to a place called Pueblo Escondido where they meet Reynaldo Santibáñez, who is apparently their father. Reynaldo is former sailor who had affairs with five other women in his younger days.

La Marca Del Deseo

Reynaldo and his family were condemned forever to unhappiness because of a curse. Because she blames Reynaldo for her daughter’s death, a witch named Carmensa curses them all. If you can get past this ridiculous history, the story is very interesting and the acting is good. Watch it, or the curse may find you!

Yo soy Betty, la fea, also known as simply Betty la fea, was a very popular novela filmed in Colombia and produced between 1999-2001 by RCN. More than a dozen versions of this novela have also been produced in other countries, including a Mexican version produced by Salma Hayek.

Beatriz Aurora Pinzón Solano is an ugly but intelligent woman working for the Eco Moda company. Betty constantly faces problems with her prettier co-workers. But eventually she is promoted to a senior position, becomes romantically involved with her boss, Armando Mendoza, and receives an amazing makeover. I’m not sure what the message is supposed to be, but watching the games at the office are very entertaining. Muy divertido!!
