2010 FIFA World Cup Groups . . .

Mexico defeated the United States 5-0 in soccer to capture the 2009 CONCACAF Gold Cup. In August, Mexico also won the next meeting of the two teams in the start of qualifying for the 2010 World Cup. The U.S. and Mexico are now leading their group. Brazil, Paraguay, and Chile look very strong in the group from South America. The competition will be very intense in the coming months leading to the final game in South Africa.

In the Copa Libertadores tournament of 2009, Estudiantes of Argentina defeated Cruzeiro of Brazil 2-1. It was a very exciting game and both teams played very well.

The best of the summer tournaments finished with Brazil defeating the United States to win the 2009 Confederations Cup in South Africa. The United States team surprised everyone by beating a strong team from Spain to arrive in the final. USA scored 2 goals in the first half but Brazil took control quickly after medio tiempo. The final score was 3-2, but
Kaka had also scored another goal for Brazil which was not counted.

Futbol (or soccer) is a game played all over the world. It is not limited to Latin countries, but we have a special passion for the game. Real futbol
is not all about money or fame. We play for the love of the game and the spirit of competition.

There are hundreds of leagues and thousands of teams, but basically
the rules are the same everywhere.

There are professional leagues, national and regional leagues, even city and local leagues. In the United States, both the Mexican League and Major League Soccer are very popular.

Futbol can be played by the very best athletes in the world or by the smallest children in el barrio. It is truly a game for everyone.

FIFA, the Federation Internationale de Futbol Association, is the institution that governs all the futbol federations around the world.

They oversee 208 federations and associations in several different countries. And FIFA is
also a member of the FA Board International which is the group that determines the rules of the game.

FIFA was started in 1904 in Zurich, Switzerland to organize teams from the various countries in Europe. They later came up with the idea to have an international competition similar to the Olympics called the World Cup.

The World Cup has turned out to be a big success and made soccer popular around the world. FIFA has become the leading organization.

Every country that has national futbol tries to join the federation in hopes of winning one of their tournaments. The FIFA World Cup is the most popular competition of any sport. The next competition in 2010 is being held in South Africa.

Mi equipo local is called the Carolina Railhawks. I have no idea what a railhawk is, but the futbol team is very good. They play against teams
from all over the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada.
