Some of my favorite places are the modern cities that also retain their traditional charm. I love old cities like
San Juan, Puerto Rico,
Cartagena, Colombia,
and San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. These are great places to travel and the people are fantastic.

Founded in 1542 by Juan de San Miguel, a Franciscan monk, San Miguel de Allende retains a rich colonial charm with its cobblestone streets and beautiful mansions.
The thing most people notice first in San Miguel is the huge church in the heart of the city. Legend has it that the architect had never even seen a gothic church. He had to take his ideas from postcards of the cathedrals in Europe. He drew pictures in the dirt in front of the church to show the workmen his vision.

San Miguel de Allende has two major art institutes, numerous galleries and too many artists to count. Attracted by this atmosphere, there is also a large foreign community, lending a cosmopolitan flavor. Despite all of that, it's still very quiet and tranquil.
Can you imagine a town of 80,000 without one single traffic light? Tell me about your favorite places and let’s share them with everyone.
